Legacy Wall
This Fall, we are introducing a special opportunity to honor those that have made a significant contribution to the Newman ministry! This interactive display is in the Gilded Room (connecting the Church Hall and the Newman Center). It's a joy to share the history of this important ministry (first Newman Center in the country!) and those that have been an incredible witness to the virtue of Stewardship.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, please contact Raul at raul@saintsaj.org
Eugene Enclona, Class of 2021
Eugene is now taking the spirit of Newman to the San Francisco area in California! Working for Google, he has started bible studies for his coworkers and young adults in the area and continues to share the Gospel! Eugene helped start the Filipino ministry here at St. Agatha-St. James and the ministry continues to thrive with wonderful ministry leaders! Eugene is also a member of the Newman Advisory Council, offering his expertise and feedback to support the continued efforts of Newman.
We are offering prayers of gratitude for Eugene and support for his ministry in CA!!
John Ortega, Class of 2020
Originally John said no to FOCUS bible studies, he got to witness the rapid growth and the foundation for missionary discipleship at Newman. The community grew rapidly, especially Junior and Senior year as staff expanded. Had the ability to witness that the faith isn’t just for the cradle Catholic. The Lord invites every individual at Penn into a relationship with Him.
Served as FOCUS missionary at MIT for the last 4 years and serving for a 5th year, served as Team Director
Credit Penn Newman to being exposed to FOCUS, he knew the Lord was inviting him to grow spiritually and in friendship and FOCUS has provided the formation and challenged him to grow in the areas, share his testimony/experiences with MIT students, being a missionary in the MIT environment has invited me to continue to grow in those areas - workaholism
Leading bible studies, more athlete outreach, when he was at Penn, he recognized that athlete and GREEK communities were not getting reached, John has been able to start up athlete socials, bible studies and cultivated the heart for sharing the Gospel with communities he;s not a part of. ESTEEM inspired him - took some of the elements and pitched it to the seniors. Preparing for parish life, general theme, still cautious to use FOCUS materials - seeing more seniors engaged
John Di Camillo, Class of 2006
After graduating from Penn in 2006, John headed to Rome to study Bioethics - following his love for his Catholic faith, science and Italy! Looking back, he can see how God was preparing him during his time at Penn and Penn Newman for ultimately his vocation as a husband, father to 7 children and his current role as the Personal Consultations Director and Ethicist for the National Catholic Bioethics Center! In this role, John offers counsel to those with questions regarding Church teaching and applying Catholic principles to real-life situations. For more information on this wonderful and free resource, check out this website: https://www.ncbcenter.org/about-personal-consults
We are offering prayers of gratitude for John and the way he is continuing to share and live the Gospel through his love for his family and ministry serving the National Catholic Bioethics Center!
